For my son's second birthday we decided to have a Blue's Clues Backyard Bash. About a month before the party I began to gathering all the large empty boxes I could find. Then I
began opening the boxes up until they laid flat and cut them with and exacto knife into the shapes of blue's clues characters...Shovel, Pail, Mr. Salt, Mrs. Pepper, Paprika, and
Mailbox. Then I glued construction paper on them to decorate them to look like the real life characters. The construction paper worked better than painting due to the slits and folds of
the boxes. I hung those all along the fence of the backyard. I got a blue sheet and hung it in the spot I wanted my son to open up presents which made for a nice backdrop and in front of the
sheet I put the blow up thinking chair I bought at Wal-Mart for like $10.00 which by the way all the kids loved to sit in and take pictures. I also hung mailbox there so the kids could
drop off their presents at mailbox.
Instead of goodie bags I made a shovel and pail out of red see through plastic cups and bright yellow spoons. These worked so well and they were very inexpensive and the kids loved them. I glued on wiggle eyes on the spoons and cups and taped the spoon to the side of the cup and used a yellow marker for the pail smile and red for the spoon. I punched two holes in the top on each side of the cup and used a red pipe cleaner to make the handle for the pail. I filled the cups with blue's clues fruit snacks, blue's clues fruit roll up, a blue sucker, blue watches, and a handy dandy notebook that I had made for each. To make the notebooks I cut green and yellow pieces of construction paper into squares and drew a thinking chair from red construction paper and glued it on the front. I used the red pipe cleaners again to make the spine of the notebook by putting it through the holes I had punched with a hole puncher. These were very inexpensive and probably the best part of the party. I also painted a green shirt I had by taping off stripes and painting it with dark green spray paint. I had a friend of my sisters come and play Steve. This was so much fun for the kids. I told them all to grab their notebooks out of their pails and Steve took them on a clue finding adventure to find the cake and cupcakes. I had make a paw print cake by making a large round cake and four cupcakes. I had a long table in the middle of the backyard that was done up special for the kids with all of them a place setting with blue's clues plate, napkin, their shovel and pail, each chair had a balloon on it for the child, and a blue's clues plastic cup to take home. All the kids sat at the table together and ate their blue cupcakes and instead of ice cream I served them blue ice pops. You can usually get them at the grocery store and they are very inexpensive like 100 ice pops for $2.50. A few other special touches I did were that we had paw prints that we had cut out of blue construction paper on the garage to the backyard and all along the fence in the backyard also I used sidewalk chalk to make paw prints up the driveway and sidewalk to guide the guest to the backyard. I also picked up a couple of blue's clues birthday cameras that were really cute when we developed the pictures, they were nice for the baby book. The children all had such a wonderful time and as they left with all of their goodies my son gave them each a card I had already made up to say thank you. I had gone to get his pictures taken on a white background with his blue's clues outfit on and a large red pail and his big stuffed blue. I enclosed a picture in each of the Blue's clues thank you card given to the guests. The party was a huge success and after the party I put all the characters on the wall in my son's room and added some extras and now his room is Blue's clues and he loves it.
