For my daughter's 1st birthday party, I planned a Blue's Clues theme-she really loved Steve.  I had my husband wear khakis and a green striped shirt. For the party planning I really went all out. Invitations: First I had a friend of mine make the invitations out of card stock for me.  She Xerox a picture of Blue from a coloring book. She then traced and cut out pieces of Blue's body and formed a cut out of Blue. She cut out everything right down to her eyes. The front of the card said: Do you know whose birthday it is? Then on the inside she made a paw print (punches) that opened up, it said: It's "xxx 1st birthday" I got so many compliments on the invitation since it was hand made. Party favors: I found red and yellow shovel and pail sets from the dollar store. I painted faces on the pails just like Shovel and Pail from the show. I used fabric paints I got from the local craft store- mind you it takes 2-3 days to dry. I filled the pails with Blue's birthday coloring books, crayons, BC window clings, Blue's Clues fruit snacks, and a dollar store toy. Decorations: The highlight of the party were my husband's life size cardboard cut outs of Blue's house, Blue herself, Periwinkle and Side Table Drawer. Painted carefully to resemble the characters.  The kids and parents took pictures on the front lawn with the cut-outs while the kids sat on the inflatable Thinking chair. I also decorated the house with a blue paper chain I made with blue round stickers to make it look like Blue's spots. I hung my daughters plush Blue's clues toys throughout the house. I also had different shades of blue latex balloons and blue star Mylar balloons. I also made my own party hats for the kids by buying some blue plain hats and decorating with blue round stickers and drawing in yellow spirals with yellow fabric paint- the same paint I used for the faces on the pails. Games: I didn't like any of the BC piņatas I saw at the stores, so I made my own. The party store had these basic round piņatas so I bought 2 BC Mylar balloons and glued them on the sides of the basic pinata. It turned out great. After they broken the pinata, the kids played more traditional birthday games like pin the tail. The prizes were more dollar store prizes.  Everyone had a great time, but it really took a lot of planning on my part, but I have to say it was all worth it.
