Kids Birthday
Party Supplies

My soon-to-be two year old son was a complete Blue's Clues fanatic, so for his second birthday we indulged his craze. I made his invitations by printing, cutting and pasting together "Handy Dandy notebooks."  On the cover, under the picture of the Thinking chair, it read, "Look at the following clues to figure out where you are invited."  The enclosed pages included crayon-sketched drawings of balloons, a cake, and a present.  The back inside cover stated, "It's a Blue's Clues Birthday Party!" and gave all the party details.  The day of the party, I dressed my son like Steve, khaki chinos and a green-striped shirt. The house was decorated in blue balloons and streamers. We transformed our family room recliner into a Thinking chair. I purchased a color-your-own cardboard Blue's Clues house for the children to color and play in while everyone was arriving. After the guests had all arrived, I told the children that hearing what a big fan my son was of Blues Clues, Blue had stopped by earlier that day to drop off a special craft activity for the children to do at the party.  I said when I asked him what the craft was, he jumped up and put a big pawprint on my storm door(I taped a pawprint to the door prior to the party for the kids to see as they entered. I asked them if they knew what it meant-- The answer, of course, that he wanted to play Blue's Clues. I told them we would be playing Blues Clues to figure out what we would be making and reviewed the rules of the game as Steve does on the show. I, then, told them that Blue had asked if he could rest and play in our backyard before making the long trip home and that he had left pawprints all over our yard. I asked them to help clean them up and use this to "practice" looking for clues. The pawprints were simply cut out of paper and weighted with coins taped to the back.  We, then, counted to see who collected the most pawprints. I took the kids back into the house to the family room to play pin-the-flag-on-mailbox.  The first two clues were placed en route to the family room -- buttons and a hand. I used a big drawing pad for my Handy Dandy Notebook.  The third clue was discreetly brought in the room while the kids were pinning the flag on Mailbox -- a sock. The answer to Blues Clues was a sock puppet. Prior to the party, I assembled baggies that had everything each child would need to make a blue puppy sock puppet -- two wiggle eyes, a blue button(nose), a pink felt tongue, light blue felt ears, several turquoise spots, a Q-tip for applying glue, and a light blue sock(I dyed some of my husband's old white socks).  This made supply distribution very easy. I served hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, veggies, fruit salad, and blue punch. The cake was, of course, shaped like Blue using Wilton's Blues Clues pan.  I distributed party favors while my son was opening his gifts -- a shovel and pail filled with crayons, a Blues Clues activity pad, Blues Clues fruit snacks, and other little goodies.
