For my daughters 4th birthday I did a camping theme (we camp all the time in the summer) For inside decorations I made evergreen trees out of cardboard and painted them. We also
hung green streamers from the ceiling starting in the center and going outward (to look like we were under tree branches) we rolled up paper and colored it brown and attached it to the
ceiling in the center of the streamers so it looked like a trunk. On the tables I got some picnic checked table clothes from the dollar store. When the campers arrived I gave them their
name tags to wear, made on the computer with labels they said Camp Last Name" and "Camper name". My husband and I wore "Camp Counselor" tags. Outside we had an
arts & crafts station (a table with various craft items for the kids to play with and an art easel with colors under a canopy) A ranger station which I made out of two cardboard boxes
that I glued together and cut out doors in the back and "check in" windows in the fronts. I then used spray paint to paint the outside brown to look like a real ranger station or
check in station at a state park. The kids had a blast playing in the ranger station. Two tents were set up with sleeping bags in them and we had small tables set up for the kids to eat on.
I made signs for each of the areas out of cardboard and put the appropriate camping symbol for each sign (if there was one) We had "arts & crafts" "ranger station" "camping area" "picnic area" "nature trail" (at the garden entrance) and a sign that said "Camp Last Name". For a game for the kids besides the craft table and the ranger station I did a scavenger hunt in the garden. I took pictures of 6 different things in the garden and put the pictures on a piece of paper with the instructions for the scavenger hunt. Each "camper" got the instructions and a baggie to collect their finds in. Once the campers found all their items they brought it to the camp counselor to check. Once they got everything on the list they received their Junior Ranger Badge which I made using a label on the computer. At that time they also got their prize/goodie bag. I got each camper a folding chair in a carrying bag. On the back of the chairs I wrote their name with fabric pen. The chairs I got at Walmart on close out ( I think they were 4.00 each -too good to pass up - and they were a big hit). In the goodie bag was a flashlight (dollar store) with their name on it (labels again) a first aid kit (dollar store) and a granola bar. I also made sacks out of some fabric and we had potato sack races (my daughters request). We made a campfire in our fire pit and the kids roasted hot dogs (of course!) for dinner. We also had juice boxes string cheese chips and banana's. The adults had a taco feed (our normal adult food for our bday party). After eating and playing the games we went inside to open presents and then birthday cake. The cake was made at home and was frosted with 1/2 chocolate frosting (to look like dirt) and half white frosting that I put blue sprinkles on it to look like water. I purchased a little tent and canoe to put on top. I got some "rock" candy to put around the cake too. I made trees out of cornflakes and marshmallows with green food coloring for the cake also. After cake the kids played some more and then went home. All the kids had a great time at the party it was my favorite party so far great for girls and boys. "
