Davy Crockett, The King of the Wild Frontier My son's 6th party held the theme Davy Crockett.
After being read one book on the life of this brave man he decided a party themed for him would be grand. We started with the inviations in the form of a covered wagon made from construction paper opening by flipping up the tarp cover. Outside said: Davy Crokett The king of the Wild Frontier... then open and read, invites you to join in an important Frontiersmen Meetin'. Have yer ma drop you off fer the meetin' at 2:00. Wee'll widdle us a tool, eat some yummy viddles and give our meetin' leader some packages. Oh and beware of the indians and bars (bears). Run fast and quiet to git in the cabin safe. If you happen to be too sceered of the indians then have yer ma call the woman of this here cabin. Then we created our cake: Rectangle sheet cake with green icing for grass and blue for a small body of water and graham cracker crumbs for a dirt road running down the side. My son then placed some plastic indians and cowboys and horses and a covered wagon on top. We served little barbegue weenies, wagon trail mix, and large stick pretzels. The drank out of tin cups and ate on tin plates. We hung pictures of Davy Crockett everywhere along with important facts about his life and adventures. We sang the Davy Crockett ballad and laughed at what would have been his favorite food. We then all sat around the table and decorated wooden horse shoes to take home. My boys love to pretend to be Davy Crockett. My son was dressed up nicely in an outfit his nana made and the coon skin hat and rifle. He looked like the real thing. For party favors we made sacks out of bandana material tied with rope to a stick. Filled them with a toy gun, play coins (money), some candy, a compass, and horse stickers. Everything the guests would need to git back through the woods to home. The possibilities are limitless with this theme because of the adventure that filled Davy Crockett's life. We had a great time with this party and enjoyed learning more about this man and his time. I would like to see party companies bring to their line of birthday supplies themes that remind us and our children of our country's heritage. Daniel Boone, the REAL Pocahontas, Columbus, General Washington, War for American Independence, The Wright Brothers, etc. I encourage anyone to explore with their children our nation's history and find worthy names and events to remember and celebrate!!
