For my daughter's first birthday party we decided on a Humpty Dumpty theme.
I made the Humpty Dumpty cake in the Wilton's 2001 Yearbook (adjusted the colors to suit a girl). For decor, I found table cloths, plates etc with Humpty Dumpty on them. I also made a Humpty Dumpty piņata out of a pre-made hot air balloon piņata. For games: We hid plastic eggs filled with popcorn kernels and decorated like the person who was to find it (correct hair color etc) all over the house. Everyone was to find only their egg and the last person to find their egg had to sing a nursery rhyme while everyone shook their egg shaker in beat. We also played musical eggs (like musical chairs but everyone stood on an egg-shaped cut-out). For a craft, we dyed hard boiled eggs in food coloring and for the loot bags - adults: egg slicer, egg timer, egg separator, chocolate eggs, Egg Nog, brochures and information about eggs from the Alberta Egg Producers Board and a marble egg from a gift store. For the kids, a Humpty Dumpty file folder game, Humpty Dumpty coloring sheet, chocolate eggs, plastic egg shaker and a Dollar Store game which involved matching egg shapes. Besides the cake, we also served devilled eggs along with other non-egg related food. For the invitation, I color photo-copied a picture of Humpty and stuck it on a card. The inside was an adaptation of the Humpty poem with all the pertinent information. For thank you cards, I cut out an egg shape which opened in the middle looking like a cracked egg and inside was a photo of my daughter hoping that everyone had an "egg"cellent time. We sure did and the theme worked really well.
