Last November I had a 'leprechaun' party for my four year old son. On arrival, the children would see very tiny little red footprints leading to our front door, where there was a huge cardboard toadstool (red with white dots). Inside, the living room was decorated with mini-balloons.  Upon arrival, I turned every child into a leprechaun, by giving them a red crepe paper hat (I cut the paper in the right size before they arrived) and giving them red cheeks and noses with my lipstick.  They loved that part! I had moved the furniture, brought in the parasol from the terrace, and covered it with red paper tablecloth on which I had glued white paper circles: this represented the house of the leprechaun. Underneath, we had two small children's tables, with small chairs (the ones we had, and some that we borrowed from the neighbors for the occasion). The table was set with small things: tiny paper plates and forks, we drank children's coke from tiny cans etc. The food was the normal party food over here, but in small sizes (pancakes and birthday cake). There is a leprechaun character in a very famous Belgian children's television program at the moment. I took his picture from the internet, enlarged it, and made a beard that the children had to put in the right place while blindfolded (donkey-tail style).  We did what leprechauns do in a leprechaun party, namely, the leprechaun dance (all children knew it, from the above mentioned television program). We also sang a few famous songs ( in Dutch) about leprechauns, and then the children watched a puppet theatre play (by me) about a naughty leprechaun that destroyed a boy's birthday cake. After the meal, like the leprechauns do (at least, I told them that they do), the children went 'fishing'. I had wrapped up some little toys (under 2 dollars) in gift paper, with ribbons. I put them in a laundry basket, so the children could fish their party favor. Before leaving, they also received a handkerchief filled with small things (mini-mars and milky ways, mini apple, pear and cookies) on a wooden stick, to carry on their shoulder (like the dwarfs of Snow-white). The part lasted two hours on a Saturday afternoon.
