Pajama Sam Party!  Pajama Sam is a superhero character that my 6 year old son fell in love with. We started off by making our own invitations using graphics borrowed from the internet. Since we were not sure all guests would know who Pajama Sam was we included a brief history of "Who is Pajama Sam.." in the invitation. We held the party at public park with lots of room for 18 kids to run around. As each child arrived they were given a Pajama Sam survival kit.  The kit included a red cape (made of lycra-type material...I used my son's many superhero capes as a template), a flashlight (cheap flashlights purchased at Wal-Mart with a Pajama Sam sticker on it...sticker image borrowed from internet), and a purple mask (made of foam craft board with elastic to hold it on). The kit items were given to them in a "lunch box" which was actually a decorated plastic box with a handle on it. After all kids arrived my husband set the scenario with the Pajama Sam story.  The kids needed to go in search of "Darkness" and to do this they must find Pajama Sam's socks. Throughout the park we had hidden over a 100 socks.  The key here is to hide them like Easter eggs...all over! The socks were purchased at a thrift/second-hand store and washed and dyed in bright colors (mainly to hide stains!). The socks were filled with goodies (non-melting!). The park was huge with lots of trails. The kids had a blast searching for socks!!  We served PB&J mini-sandwiches and other quick snack food.  We made a Pajama Sam cake using a 9x13 pan and tracing his image (once again borrowed)and decorating. Napkins, cups and plates were all plain white and decorated with homemade stickers.  Our kids had fun with these! The goodie-bag was the "lunchbox" and the kids' goodies were in the socks. Did not have to worry about someone leaving without their loot bag!  Since Pajama Sam is not a hugely commercialized character we had to do alot of creation on our own. It was a lot less expensive and immensely more rewarding.  My son and his friends had a blast!
