BALL THEME PARTY: For my son's 2nd birthday party we decided to have a ball themed party.
The invitations were some lightweight hollow plastic baseballs from the dollar store. I wrote on them "Have a Ball! Come join us for ____ Birthday!" Put the address on the ball and a stamp and mailed it as just a ball (I didn't put it in a container of any kind). It was $ .60 per ball for postage and the cost of each ball was only $ .50 We have one of those pools that are filled with balls...I put that in the front yard with many balloons decorated like different balls (permanent marker on the balloons) and took some of the pool balls along with a variety of other small lightweight balls and put them in a large see-through vase with minimal flowers as a centerpiece. We served melon balls, meat balls, cheese balls, popcorn balls. I made cupcakes decorated as balls. We also put our large excercise ball outside with a "Birthday party's here" sign. I had a table-top bowling set on the deck. I had various balls outside to play with. I also had a few bowling balls (only $2 at a thrift store) on a few tables sitting on a babyfood jar lid to keep from rolling...with a few flowers in the finger holes... Party favors were malted milk balls and gumballs....I set our gumball machine by the front door. We had just built a big sandbox so we thought it would be fun to have a game to search for very small balls in the sand. two kids at a time (same age group) and they try to find as many balls as they can in one minute. Blow up balls were easy to use for decorations. We took photos of each child with my son laying down in the ball pool....right away when the kids arrived so that we could print them out and give them as gifts as they walked out the door....the photos were great as they were in a big pile of multi-colored balls as the background. I used that new POM juice that is pommegrante juice in these really curvy plastic containers and painted them like balls and used them as vases. I made punch and had melon balls floating in it. And we had a fantastic time...but doesn't anyone at their child's birthday party?
