My younger son is nuts about balls, any kind of sport ball.  So for my son's 2nd Birthday I decided to have a Sport Theme.  THe invitations were done on black paper and I used scrapbooking cut outs of baseballs, footballs, basketball. I wrote "Come have a Ball, Kevin is turning 2 and on inside he wants to play with You" I also told guests to come wearing their favorite sports jersey or favorite sport. I had the part down in my basement since it is January.  I bought many type of cushy sport balls and hung them on the ceiling.  Since it was a 2 year old party I wanted to keep it simple and a win-win situation even though older children would be attending.  When guests arrived I had a craft of making a Sports banner with their name and sport stickers. When everyone was comfortable I had guests kick a soccer ball into the goal for this they would get a mini- soccer ball, shoot a basket and they would get a medal, thow a football into blow-up football catcher(oriental trading) and roll a ball down the slide (brought in from outside) and try and knock the pins down. Next we ate pizza I thought about using the chicken nuggets made out of footballs.(SInce is is close to SUper Bowl) The next craft was making door hangers with glitter glue and sport stickers, the kids loved using the glitter glue, I just put small tables to together with a plastic green table cloth for easy clean-up. Next we did the football pinata. For the cake I poured the batter into a large cookie sheet, I removed it after it baked and cooled, it was no more than 1 inch and 1/2 thick. I frosted it with white icing. I then cut out a circle and 3 lines using paper towels as a template for a soccer field.  I placed the circle in the middle of the cake and the lines were placed for a 50 yard and 25 yard mark. I then used green sugar sprinkles and placed all over cake to make it look like a field. I placed mini soccer guys on cake. Goody bags were black bags with a soccer ball and basketball stenciled on the outside.  Inside was a basketball, a sport theme pencil, and a few other sport related items (whistle, sport keychain) The kids ranged from 2-5 and they all enjoyed themselves.  My 2 year old had a blast just throwing the balls and kicking soccer goals!
