For my son's 2nd birthday, we had a sports ball theme.
He loves all kinds of balls, so this theme was perfect for him. I took pictures of him dressed up as a basketball player, football player, soccer player and baseball player. I printed these on the invitation that said: Come have a BALL with ______, ROLL on over on date and time. I also used clip art of each ball for the border. For decorations I got spongy balls (basketball, football, soccer ball and baseball) from Oriental Trading and tied fishing string around them and hung them from the ceiling. The kids also got to take one of these home for a prize. In each corner I did a different ball theme; football had my sons pads, helmet, Vikings blanket and footballs; soccer had small goal, soccer balls, orange cones and sons soccer uniform and cleats; basketball used our little tikes hoop and some basketballs; and for baseball used bats, gloves, ball and a baseball hat. I also found easter baskets that were basketballs, baseballs and soccer balls that I used for decorations and to put the kids prizes in. Games: 1 - got easter eggs that looked like balls, put stuff in them like a nickel, ball tatoo, bouncy ball, bubble rings and candy. They had to find 1 of each ball and put them in their baskets. 2 - Hung a hula hoop from a tree and had them try to throw a football threw it. 3 - Bean bag toss game. Prizes: Spongy sports balls (that were hanging from the ceiling), candy necklaces, the ball eggs and prizes inside, ball baskets and whistles that were shaped like balls (got after Easter at Walmart). Food: Made a 9x13 cake and cut it out in the shape of a football, frosted with chocolate frosting and white frosting for the laces and white cicles at the ends, put boughten candy letters of HAPPY BIRTHDAY on the top and bottom. We had BBQ meatBALLS, tater ROUNDS (like tater tots only flat and round), melon BALL salad, and ROLLS and punch to drink. Put signs by the food, all the adults caught on right away. The kids just wanted to eat! The party was fun and when it was over my 2 year old said 'more party'. Hope this is helpful for your party planning.
