My daughter and her best friend share the same birthdate. For their 5th birthday on June 26, the girls decided they wanted to have a tea party. Since they both go to the same day care and will be going to different schools in the fall, we decided to let them have a combined birthday tea party. We invited the girls only from their day care class. We held the party at my house. For the invitations, we had them dress up in pretty dresses, hats, gloves and feather boas, and I set up a Princess Tea set and they were sitting with their teddy bears for the picture and then we got them developed and cropped them fancy and put them on the front of an invitation card from Walmart. We made up a real cute poem about Olivia and Maggie's tea and to wear their princess or tea-party best dress.  We also asked each girl what color tulle they wanted to decorate their hat with, and as they RSVP'd we knew what color tulle they wanted on their hats. They really turned out nice.  On the day of the tea, I used a lilac plastic table cover on the table and then borrowed one of my mom's lace tablecloths to put over it. We then got some tea party plates from a local party store and used my mom's glass punch cups for the girls to drink from. We also had place cards with each girl's name at each place setting ( Great idea) and had lace doiles and mint cups with mints at each place setting. The cake was in the shape of a tea pot and was the centerpiece of the table. We used tulle netting in the slots of the cake plate and had tulle netting on the mailbox outside and around my front porch as decorations. We got straw hats from Hobby Lobby and Maggies mom pre-decorated them with the tulle and made long bows in the back and made ties in the front. I had a huge bag of silk flowers and let the girls pick out what flowers they wanted on their hats, and the adults hot glued them to the hats. Then we had them sit in my fancy rocker with their hat and a boa on and we took a picture of each one of the girls. Later we painted small framed pink and purple and glued a wooden teapot cutout on the frames and included the pictures in the frames with the thank you notes.  After they decorated their hats, we ate lunch. It consisted of peanut butter sandwiches, ham sandwiches, in which the bread was cut out with flower shaped and butterfly shaped cookie cutters. They were also served cheese cubed, with the party picks ( i have never seen so much cheese get eaten, it must of been the party picks!) , chocolate covered strawberries, chips, and pink lemonade. Everything was served on fancy glass trays and glass pitchers. The girls were very mannerly during lunch. After lunch, the two birthday girls, Olivia and Maggie, opened their gifts together and then we let them play for a while before the moms arrived. We then sang happy birthday and let them eat the teapot cake and ice cream. When the moms came to get the guests, they each got to take their hat, a boa, and a treat bag which was filled with a tea cup and saucer from Birthday Express, a ring that flashes, a pretty necklace from Walmart, a bangle bracelet ( Dollar General) a Disney princess address book and notepad, and a bottle of fingernail polish.  The girls had so much fun, and my self and Maggie's mom had just as much fun planning it! The other  moms still tell us how much fun their daughters had coming to the tea!
