My daughter Brielle's 4th birthday was approaching and this was going to be her first party where she could invite her friends from school. We decided to have a dress up tea party with all her
new and old friends. My daughter and I made her invitations out of card stock. We printed them on our computer, punched some hearts with a hole puncher & added ribbon to make a pretty bow
and sent them to her friends. On the big day, we set up 3 child size tables, complete with a table cloth (I found remnant fabric at the fabric store, this is cheaper then having it cut) I
used doilies as place mats and I made tea pot place cards out of foam from the local craft store. I then took lollipops (left over from Valentine's Day) and with construction paper I
made them into flowers and placed them in a vase for the centerpieces. I transformed my family room into a café complete with soft music (I played a kids party cd) and lots of
decorations. When the ladies arrived they picked out a fancy dress to wear (I had purchased dress up dresses from a local toy store that was going out of business) and then they went
over to the mirror to put on their shoes, jewelry and makeup (play of course). Once everyone was dressed and ready, I used a Polaroid camera & took a picture of each of the girls
dressed. I added a magnet and an address label where I printed "All dressed up at Brielle's Tea Party". (I printed these before the party.) Then the "tea" (juice) was served
in a teapot along with heart shaped PB&J sandwiches, and carrot sticks. After lunch we cleared the tables away and let the fun begin. We had a fashion show and all the ladies showed off
their dresses. Then we played musical rug, don't drop the hanky and don't tip the cookie tray.
My Mom made a cake to look like a teapot and cupcakes to look like teacups. We sang happy birthday and then we ate cake. Everyone went home with sunglasses, a fan, a tea cup and a chocolate candy rose in their white paper bag that I made to look like a tea bag and a picture of them to remember this wonderful tea party. I took my daughter to school today and all the Mom's commented on how much fun their daughters had and now they too want to have a tea party for their birthday too! I think that this was a hit!
