For our daughter's 5th birthday, she wanted a Wizard of Oz theme.  We bought yellow cellophane wrap and turned the walkway to our front door into the Yellow Brick Road.  On our front lawn we placed her big playhouse with the witch's legs sticking out from underneath it and she still wore the Ruby Slippers. On our front door was a sign inviting the kids to "Enter the Emerald City" complete with a picture that we had printed off the Corel Print House edition that included a disc of Wizard of Oz clip art. In our living room and dining room where the party would take place we blew up enough emerald green balloons to cover the floor.  On the party table we had Wizard of Oz confetti, place cards for each child with an Oz character on it, the cake which had the Yellow Brick Road and all of the Oz characters, including the witch with a house on top of her, Oz theme partyware, and a favor bag for each child. (By the way, the kids LOVED the confetti and spent a lot of time trying to find a piece of each Oz character!)In the center of the table was a basket with all of the bean bags of the Wizard of Oz characters that Warner Brothers sold. Each child also got a little basket(with blue and white gingham print material in it of course) that was filled with little black Scottie dog candies to look like Toto.  I ordered huge helium balloons of the Tinman, Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion and they were around the table, as well as smaller balloons that said "Wizard of Oz."  For games we played "Pin the Heart on the Tinman" as I had a poster size picture of the Tinman done up.  Each child won a plastic heart with heart-shaped candies inside.  The kids drew chalk pictures of their favorite Oz characters on our back patio and each child won a medal for their efforts. To test their brains we had Oz mazes to do.  In the favor bags we put items we considered "Oz-related"-animal cookies (for the Cowardly Lion), Oz stickers, coloring pages of Oz characters, crazy straws (for the Scarecrow's straw), heart-shaped candies(for the Tinman), a round sticker with Dorothy and the Scarecrow that read "Thanks for coming to Nicole's party!", and a packet of sunflower seeds to plant to represent Dorothy (being from Kansas). We also played a Wizard of Oz CD on the stereo through most of the party, and had a moon bounce that looked like a castle in the backyard-my daughter's version of the Emerald City!  We bought a blond girl pinata that my daughter and I turned into Glinda by making a tissue paper crown and clothes for her. We also made some snacks for the kids like "Munchkin Mix" which was gumdrops, colored flavored popcorn, pretzels, and animal crackers. We did some other things, but I can't remember them all right now!
