The Wizard of OZ
We just gave my 6 year old her first kid party and I wanted it to be really great. My daughter wanted to be Dorothy for Halloween and being her birthday is three days before Halloween a Wizard of Oz party would be great. I started working 3 weeks before time. I started with the invitations I downloaded a Oz picture on to yellow paper then I hand written it out in gold gel pin on the front I wrote Your invited to follow the yellow brick road (INSIDES) To ---- 6th birthday party with time, date and place. on every envelope I drew a yellow brick road. At around this time I started painting large freezer boxes green to make a maze so the kids could play in and I called it the emerald city (it was a BIG hit with the kids and some adults played in it to). I also painted a large chair box and drew broken windows on it and put white socks with black electrical tape around them for the witches legs everybody loved it. We rented a hall to have the party I covered the door to inter the hall in gray and white paper with a sign that read follow the yellow brick road, on the floor I took a yellow plastic table cloth and cut it and drew bricks on it as the guess followed the road they had to go throw a door way covered with bright colored crate paper streamers as they went from gray and white they went to a room that I had covered with the colors red, green, blue, yellow, purple, orange. I covered doors, windows, cellings, and tables(colors of the rainbow). At each door way i had made large tissue paper poppy flowers and i made small tissue paper poppy for all the tables and at the end of the party each guest took a flower home. The kids played games all throw the party like Pin the wort on the witches nose (I drew a witch and we used sticky tac for the worts), they played witch hat hunt I made 6 witches hats out of fun foam 4 black 1 red 1 blue they had to find all 6 hat but only red and blue would be the winners. I filed a rainbow pinata with candy and prizes and they hit it till they got it open. I did a Wizard of oz trivia for the adults it was a big hit the questions were hard but it was fun to hear the answers. I also had set up all throw the party two jars of skittles a large one for the adults and a small one for the kids. They were to guess how many skittles were in the jar the one closest to the number got the jar i call this game a rainbow in a jar. I made the cake the inside was the coffee cake mix with all the bright colors the I iced it with white and I drew a gray cyclone on it and did a gray border and writing so when I cut the cake you go from gray and white to color like the movie. I make melted witch punch out of lime cool-aid sprite and lime sherbet this is very good. I made favors for all the kids (Hotair balloons)I rolled down brown lunch bags used a hole punch and put two holes on each and attached brown yarn I used a helium tank and blew up balloons and attached to the yarn. In each one I put a scarecrow bookmark, blue and white checked ribbon, a magic wand, a apple ornament, a fun foam heart magnet, a paper poppy flower, a wizard of or degree rolled up with red ribbon and lots of candy they were very cut I made all of it but the apple and blue and white ribbon. This was a lot of work but my daughter loved it and every one told me what fun it was and what a good job I did. But the one thing that I what to come from this party is for my 6 year old to still remember and talk about it 15 years from now.
