Wizard of Oz Party - For my daughter's 4th birthday, we had an oz-some party. For starters, we decorated three rooms in our home--the living room (main party room) was munchkinland, with rainbow colored crepe paper, rainbow balloons, large flowers on the wall and pictures from an old Oz calendar on the walls as well.  The dining room was Emerald city, so naturally it was all in green. The kitchen was Kansas, so it was all in gray, with the highlight being the tornado!  My husband strung gray crepe paper from the ceiling fan, turned it on, and VOILA! a terrific tornado! I also had several Oz posters displayed throughout.  On the kitchen table, I had a few oz munchies, including Auntie Em's crullers (she serves them to the farmhands at the beginning of the movie!) and toto cookies (sugar cookies in the shape of a Scottie dog).  A large roll of yellow bulletin board paper lined my front walkway, and a scarecrow stood in the front yard!  My daughter and I were Dorothy...my husband was the Wicked Witch! Guests were invited to dress as Oz characters. Once they arrived, I began (as I do all of my parties) by reading a story - the Golden Book Wizard of Oz (pictures from the movie).  We then did a rainbow suncatcher craft. Games included Pin the Wart on the Wicked Witch, Wizard of Oz bingo (I made it using Oz rubber stamps and we used rainbow colored M&Ms for markers!) and Yellow Brick Road hopscotch.  For this game, I made a hopscotch board using more yellow bulletin board paper and glued Oz photos in each square.  They tossed a beanie Toto, hopped to that square, and had to name the Oz character before they came back! Lastly, we gave out the treat bags, which consisted of goodies that they had to "match" with the Oz character (a scroll inside had all of the answers!) A tube of red glitter was for Dorothy's shoes, a wand represented Glinda, a straw hat for the scarecrow, a heart eraser for Tinman, a medal for the lion, a witch's finger for the Witch, bone candy for toto, a ballet shoe sticker for the Lullaby League, a lollipop for the Lollipop Guild.  The treat bag also included a dollar store storybook of the Wizard.  These same children (now 8 years old) still talk of the tornado!
