For my daughter's birthday this past December we had a tropical theme party. She turned 12.
We sent invitations out in plastic bottles with a "SOS" to help us celebrate her birthday. The guest were asked to bring back the bottles to do a sand art craft.
As the guest arrived we gave them lei's to put on. They all wore their best beach garb. They played limbo while Hawaiian music played in the background.
I made up a Gilligan's Island Trivia game, most of the girls have seen it enough on reruns to answer a lot of the questions. They did the hula also.
We decorated with potted trees and plants. We made vines out of brown paper bags, by cutting strips and twisting them, and adding green construction paper leaves. We hung them up instead of crepe paper. I hung up a big sun, and draped beach towels everywhere.
The girls dined on tuna salad sailboats, made on half of a hotdog bun and adding a white tortilla chip for the sail. They ate seashell macaroni salad with the sandwiches. They munched fish mix, made with oyster crackers and different flavors of Pepperidge farms goldfish.
I made Hawaiian punch with ginger ale and served in cups with little umbrellas.
Fun was had by all!
