Flying Kite Party My twins and I were planing their 10 year old party. We were trying to plan something different that both boys and girls would like to do. Their birthday is in April so we hoped to do something outside.
I came up with the idea when I was looking at a favorite picture I had of them. They were at the beach flying kites. This would be perfect and they both agreed on the idea. First I scanned the photo of them flying their kites and used this as an invitation. "Come Fly With Us on our 10th Birthday" was the wording on the invitation.
We had the party at a town beach close to our home. I found pop-up kites at a discount warehouse store. They were $10.00 each. I did buy several extras in case any were lost in the wind(this did happened--try to pick a spot that is open and there are no trees near by). The children flew their kites for about an hour. Just imagine 24 children flying colorful kites on the beach. It was a beautiful site and very funny at times.
When the children called to RSVP for the party, we gave them three choices of lunch. For example: bologna, peanut butter and jelly, or turkey sandwiches. We made a picnic lunch for each child and put it in a beach pail. You are never too old to use a pail and shovel! The pail was filled with a sandwich, chips and a drink.
Ice Cream cone cupcakes were served for dessert.
After lunch the kids were put into groups and they went on a scavenger hunt. They had to find 10 things.
We ended the party with them using their pails and shovels and building sand castles or whatever they wanted to do.
A good time was had by all! Including the parents that stayed to help. I am now planning their 11th birthday. This year it will be different though. They want separate birthdays!
