Unicorn Party

Unicorn Party 5yrs  Invitations were rolled up like a scroll and tied with pink ribbon.   Using a unicorn clip art and a fancy font, they read as follows: Dear Lord Oscar and Lady Emma Please Join Us for a Fantasy Unicorn Party To Celebrate the 5th Birthday of Ruby Jane In the Magical Rose Garden at Willow Park For an Enchanting Tea & Cakes & Surprises

The party was held in an enchanting rose garden in a public park filled with little magical pathways between the fountains and sweet-smelling roses.  Glitter was scattered on the pathways leading to the world of mystical unicorns!  Pink & silver balloons and pink streamers were hung up around the gazebo.  Tables were decorated with shimmering pink satin and tulle cloths.  Pink picnic blankets were scattered around.

Food was simple cake, cupcakes, biscuits, and various bowls of pink & white sweets including marshmallows.  For drinks, juice was served and everyone brought flasks of hot water for the tea & coffee.  Masks & wands were handed to the girls and masks & swords to the boys on arrival.  We hung sparkling unicorn necklaces on the rose bushes, one for each child to take home at the end of the party.

Once everyone had arrived, we sat down together for a story.  Grandpa read RUBY’S RAINBOW BRIDGE BIRTHDAY STORY while we lit the candles.  Ruby made a wish and blew them out.  We had a round unicorn maypole cake.  The pink iced cake was decorated with a pink satin-ribbon & flower maypole in the middle.  Five unicorns tied with ribbon galloped around the pole with five candles in between.  Sprinkles were pink and silver.  Another lovely idea I found, but didn’t do as it was more for older children was to hand out cupcakes to every child with a candle on it, then walk from child to child, lighting the candles and they each get to make a wish for Ruby.

Ruby chose two games for her party.  A ‘Treasure Hunt’ for lots of gold chocolate coins hidden in and around the rose bushes.  And pass-the-parcel where Ruby enjoyed playing the music and stopping it so every child got a turn to unwrap a layer.  She didn’t know which was the last layer, so it worked well as she could watch and be fair.  Other ideas I thought of but never actually did-  Pin the horn on the unicorn paint a unicorn and make a horn for each child with name on it Decorate your own crown have templates for each child and they decorate.. Make your own unicorn horn tightly rolled cone hats with elastic We then enjoyed some tea and free playtime.

Towards the end of the party we all sat down and one-by-one each child and family member gave gifts to Ruby.  She was forewarned to then look that person in the eye to say thank you!  She then gave something to each person in return.  I was lucky enough to find little treasure boxes, the pink ones had a unicorn & accessories inside and the blue ones had a knight with accessories.  They were perfect and were given as a little gift in place of a party pack.  I tied a little note onto each one saying:  Thank you for joining us in the magical celebration of Ruby’s 5th birthday With this little poem: Come bright butterfly, close to me  Your beautiful wings I should like to see You fly like a bird, you sip like a bee  But you're really a flower the wind set free

Everyone really enjoyed themselves and even though the party took quite a lot of work, it was a great success and something that Ruby will remember for a long, long time.  Just shows you - the sweets weren’t even eaten! Thank you to Caitlin, Chloe, Emma, Jemma, Maya, Taine, Kai, Fen, Oscar, Keanu, Ruanne, Sarah, Theresa, Ondine, Leigh, Nikki, Belinda, Starr, Granny and Grandpa, Alison, Andrew, Sarah and Granny for making the party so lovely.
